Trezor Safe 3 Setup Guide: Step-by-Step

Welcome to the world of "Self-Custody"! Choosing a Trezor Safe 3 (or Safe model) is an excellent investment for the long-term security of your coins.

This guide will break down the steps into an easy-to-understand, step-by-step process.

Trezor Safe 3 Quick Start Guide

Before plugging in the USB cable, please clear your desk and prepare the following:

  • Trezor Safe 3: If it's new, check the exterior of the box for any signs of tampering. Most importantly, the "Security Seal" on the box lid must be intact and unbroken.

Caution: If you find any abnormalities or if the seal has been opened, do not use it. Contact the distributor or Bitcast immediately.

  • USB-C Cable: Included in the box.
  • Paper or Word Card: The hard paper card included for writing down words.
  • Pen: Have one ready to write down your Recovery Seed.
  • Computer or Smartphone (Important!)
  • Works with Windows, macOS, Linux.
  • Or Android smartphones.
  • Note: iOS (iPhone/iPad) does not currently support direct wired connection.
  • Free Time: Approximately 15 minutes to ensure you can focus completely.

Starting the Setup (Step-by-Step)

Step 1 (Download and Install Trezor Suite)

Security starts here. You must use only the official website or application.

  • Access the official website.
  • Open a web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.) on your computer or laptop.
  • Type the URL: trezor.io/start into the Address Bar and press Enter.
  • Caution: Do not search for "Trezor Suite" on Google Search and click on sponsored ads (Ad) at the top, as these may be fake (Phishing) websites created by hackers.
  • Choose your usage method.
  • Option 1 "Download for desktop" (highly recommended): This involves downloading and installing the software on your computer. This method is the most stable and secure, reducing the risk of accidentally visiting a fake website in the future.
  • Option 2 "Continue in browser": This allows you to use it directly in your web browser without installation (suitable for use on non-personal or emergency computers).
  • Select your operating system.
  • If downloading, click to select the operating system of your computer, which supports Windows, macOS, and Linux.
  • Click the Download button and wait for the file to finish downloading.
  • Install the program.
  • Open the downloaded file (e.g., Trezor-Suite-Setup...exe on Windows or .dmg on Mac).
  • Follow the system's installation steps until complete.
  • Once installed, the Trezor Suite icon will appear on your screen or in your program list.

Step 2 (Connect and Install Firmware)

All new Trezor devices do not come with firmware pre-installed, ensuring that the software you use is the latest and most secure version. Therefore, you need to install the firmware yourself.

  • Open the Trezor Suite program and connect your Trezor Safe 3 to your computer with the USB cable.
  • Once the program detects the device, click the "Setup my Trezor" button.
  • A Security Check alert will appear, click "Install Firmware."
  • Wait for the installation to complete, then click "Continue."

Step 3 (Create New Wallet)

Once the firmware is installed, the system will ask you to choose between recovering an existing wallet or creating a new one. Do the following:

  • For new users, click the "Create new wallet" button (+) to start creating a new wallet.
  • Selecting Backup Type (Very Important): The system will give you options.
  • Recommendation: Choosing a Legacy Wallet Backup (which typically consists of 12 or 24 words) is the best option for most users.
  • Why 12 or 24 words? Because it is the most popular and sufficiently secure international standard (BIP-39). The key is "flexibility." If your Trezor device is damaged or lost in the future, you can use these 12 or 24 words to recover your wallet on other hardware wallets that support the same standard, without being tied solely to Trezor.
  • Press the confirmation button on your Trezor device to proceed to writing down the seed phrase.

Step 4 (Writing Down Your Seed Phrase (Most Important!))

This step is the most crucial part of this article. The system will generate a random English word sequence (either 12 or 24 words, depending on your settings).

  • Pick up your paper or Recovery Card.
  • Read the words on the Trezor screen and write them down on the paper, one word at a time, in order 1, 2, 3... ensuring all letters are correct.
  • Once you have written all the words, the system will ask you to review (check) them again to confirm accuracy (e.g., "What is the 9th word?"). Select the correct answer on the Trezor screen.

⛔ Golden Rule of Security (Mandatory!):

* Do NOT take photos of your Seed Phrase or save it on your phone or computer.

* Do NOT save it as a digital file or upload it to the Cloud.

* Store this paper in a secure and highly confidential place, because "anyone with this paper can access all your funds."

Step 5 (Set PIN)

The PIN code is used to prevent unauthorized physical access to your device (like a phone passcode). For Trezor Safe 3, all settings are done on the device's screen.

  • Start Setup: On your computer screen (Trezor Suite), click "Set PIN" and confirm on the Trezor device.
  • How to enter the code on Trezor Safe 3:
  • The Trezor screen will display a number panel.
  • Use the "left" or "right" buttons on the device to move the cursor to the desired number.
  • Press the "middle" button (or press both buttons simultaneously) to select that number.
  • Repeat until you have entered the desired number of digits (from 4-50 digits).
  • Confirm the code:
  • Once all numbers are selected, move the cursor to the checkmark (✓) and press to confirm.
  • Re-enter PIN:
  • The system will ask you to re-enter the same code to prevent errors. Follow the same steps.
  • When finished, a message will appear on the screen indicating successful setup.

Tips for setting the code:

  • Set a code that is difficult to guess (avoid using easily guessable codes such as 1234, 1111).
  • Entering the code on the Safe 3 device itself is the most secure method, as the password is never transmitted via USB to the computer. This way, hackers cannot discover your code.

Step 6 (Activate Coins and Finish)

Once the PIN is set, the screen will show that it's complete.

  • You can choose to "Activate assets" to immediately enable the coin wallets you wish to use, such as Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Dogecoin.
  • Click "Complete setup" and then "Go to Trezor Suite" to access the main Dashboard.

Congratulations! Your Trezor Safe 3 is now ready to serve as a "fortress" protecting your digital assets. As long as you keep your Seed Phrase (the 12 or 24 words written on paper) safe, your coins will be secure forever.

Not your keys, not your coins.
