Checklist: What to prepare before starting
Before plugging in the USB cable or connecting wirelessly via Bluetooth, clear your desk and prepare these items:
- Trezor Safe 7: If you just bought it, check the external condition of the box. There should be no signs of tampering, and most importantly, the "Security Seal" sealing the box must be intact and unbroken.
Caution: If you find any abnormalities or if the seal has been opened, do not use it. Contact the distributor or Bitcast immediately.
- USB-C cable: Included in the box
- Paper or word-noting card: Cardboard for writing down recovery words, included in the box
- Pen: Prepare it for writing down your Recovery Seed
- Computer or laptop or mobile phone (Important!): Works with Windows, macOS, Linux
- Free time: Approximately 15 minutes to ensure you have full concentration
Getting Started (Step-by-Step)
Step 1 (Download and Install Trezor Suite)
Security starts here. You must use only authentic web or software from the official source.
- Access the official website
- Open a web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.) on your computer or laptop.
- Type the URL: trezor.io/start into the Address Bar at the top and press Enter.
- Caution: Do not search for "Trezor Suite" in Google Search and click on the top ad link, as it might be a fake (phishing) website created by hackers.
- Choose your usage method
- Option 1 "Download for desktop" (highly recommended) is to download and install the software on your device. This method is the most stable and secure, as it reduces the risk of accidentally visiting a wrong website in the future.
- Option 2 "Continue in browser" is to use it via a web page without installation (suitable for use on a non-personal device or in an emergency).
- Select your operating system
- If you choose to download, click to select the operating system of the computer you are using, which supports Windows, macOS, and Linux.
- Click the Download button and wait for the file to finish loading.
- Install the software
- Open the downloaded file (e.g., Trezor-Suite-Setup...exe on Windows or .dmg on Mac).
- Follow the system's installation steps until complete.
- Once installed, the Trezor Suite icon will appear on your screen or in your program list.
Step 2 (Connect and Install Firmware)
Every new Trezor device comes "without" pre-installed firmware to ensure that the software you use is the latest and most secure version. Therefore, you must install the firmware yourself.
- Turn on pairing mode: Power on your Trezor Safe 7 and enable Bluetooth on your laptop.
- Start connection: Open the Trezor Suite software on your laptop, click the "Connect" button, and select the Bluetooth connection method by clicking "Connect Trezor Safe 7 via Bluetooth." The system will search for nearby devices. Select the name "Trezor Safe 7" to pair.
*** Ensure that the number displayed on the Trezor Suite screen matches the number on the Trezor Safe 7 and press "Confirm" to verify. ***
*** Enter the number shown on Trezor Safe 7 to confirm the device again on the Trezor Suite screen. ***
- Access settings: Once connected and the code is confirmed, click the "Set up my Trezor" button on your computer screen.
- Install Firmware: Click the "Install Firmware" button. The system will download and install the latest OS version onto your Trezor via Bluetooth. Wait until the loading bar is full and a green checkmark ✅ appears, then click "Continue" to proceed.
- Security check: The system will automatically perform a security check to verify that the chip in the device is genuine.
Step 3 (Create New Wallet)
Once the firmware is installed, the system will prompt you to choose between recovering an existing wallet or creating a new one. Do the following:
- For new users, click the "Create new wallet" button (the + sign) to start creating a new wallet.
- Choosing the Backup Type (Very Important): The system will give you options to choose from.
- Recommendation: Choosing the Legacy Wallet Backup (which typically consists of 12 or 24 words) is the best option for general users.
- Why 12 or 24 words? Because it is an international standard (BIP-39) that is highly popular and sufficiently secure. Most importantly, it offers "flexibility." If your Trezor device is damaged or lost in the future, you can use these 12 or 24 words to recover your wallet on other hardware wallets that support the same standard, without being tied solely to Trezor.
- Press the confirmation button on the Trezor device to proceed to the word-recording step.
Step 4 (Writing down your Seed Phrase (the most important part!))
This is the most crucial part of this article. The system will generate a random set of English words (either 12 or 24 words, depending on your settings).
- Take out your paper or recovery card.
- The Trezor screen will display one word at a time in large, easy-to-read text. Write down each word on paper, following the numerical order 1, 2, 3... making sure every letter is correct.
- Swipe or tap the arrow buttons on the Trezor screen to navigate to the next word.
- Once all words are written down, the system will prompt you to verify them again for accuracy (e.g., "What is the 5th word?"). Tap on the correct word on the Trezor screen to confirm.
⛔ Golden rules for security (must do!):
* NEVER take photos of your Seed Phrase or store it on your phone or computer.
* NEVER save it as a digital file or upload it to the Cloud.
* Keep this paper in the safest and most confidential place possible, because "anyone who has this paper can access all of your funds."
Step 5 (Setting up your PIN)
The PIN Code is used to prevent unauthorized physical access to your device (similar to a phone passcode). For Trezor Safe 7, all settings are done directly on the device screen.
- Start setup: On your computer screen (Trezor Suite), click the "Set PIN" button and then confirm on your Trezor device.
- How to enter PIN on Trezor Safe 7:
- A numeric keypad will be displayed on the screen.
- Tap with your finger to set your desired PIN (between 4-50 digits).
- You will feel a subtle vibration (haptic feedback) each time you press, ensuring the press was registered.
- Confirm PIN
- Once you have selected all desired numbers, press the checkmark (✓).
- Re-enter PIN
- The system will ask you to re-enter the same PIN to prevent accidental errors. Follow the same steps.
- When finished, the screen will display a message indicating successful setup.
Tips for setting your PIN
- Set a PIN that is difficult to guess (avoid using easy-to-guess PINs like 1234, 1111).
- Entering your PIN directly on the Trezor Safe 7 device is the most secure method, as the PIN is never transmitted over USB or Bluetooth to your computer, so hackers cannot discover your PIN.
Step 6 (Activate Coin and Finish)
Once the PIN is set, the screen will show that it is complete.
- You can choose to Activate assets to immediately display the coin wallets you want to use, such as Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Dogecoin, etc.
- Click "Complete setup" and then "Go to Trezor Suite" to access the main Dashboard.
Congratulations! Your Trezor Safe 7 is now ready to serve as your "fortress" protecting your digital assets. As long as you keep your Seed Phrase (the 12 or 24 words written on paper) as safe as possible, your coins will remain secure forever.
