The difference between Jade Classic VS Jade Plus

One day, I (Admin T) came across a review of the Blockstream Jade Plus Hardware Wallet on YouTube. As someone who previously used the Jade Classic, I must say, it looks absolutely amazing!

The reason I initially chose the Jade Classic was its compact, cute, and adorable size (in my opinion). It also boasted many interesting features, such as air-gapped capability, the ability to function as a mini-miner, and support for the Liquid Network (Bitcoin Layer 2). However, I must confess that I never actually used all of these features, not even the highly-touted QR code feature (I feel very guilty about that). After seeing the review of the new model, I'm incredibly excited about it – like, a million "k.o. kais" worth of excitement! Compared to the old model I used, it actually makes me want to start trying out all those features I mentioned before.

So, how is the Jade Plus better than the old model?

Superior Design and Display ✨

Completely Redesigned: The Jade Plus has been completely redesigned. It no longer uses the control wheel like the Classic model but instead features two newly designed buttons, making it much easier to use.

Available in 3 colors:

- Metal versions: Lunar Silver, Genesis Gray

- Plastic version: Classic Black

Improved Display: The Jade Plus screen is 66% larger and 25% brighter (Jade Plus has a 1.9-inch LCD with 320x170 RGB resolution, compared to the Jade Classic's 1.14-inch IPS LCD with 240x135 RGB resolution). This makes transaction verification, QR code scanning, and Bitcoin management easier and more convenient.

Enhanced Performance and Durability 🚀

New Chipset : The new ESP32-S3 chipset makes the Jade Plus faster, smoother, and more reliable.

Durability : The Jade Plus has a metal version, which is ideal for long-term Bitcoin storage.

Improved Camera 📸

Higher Resolution : The improved camera allows for ultra-fast QR code scanning (Jade Plus has a 640x480px camera compared to Jade Classic's 320x240px).

Advanced Open-Source Security and Air-Gapped Operation 🔒

Blind Oracle PIN Protection : This innovative PIN system uses advanced end-to-end encryption, splitting the secrets required to access your wallet between your PIN, the Jade Plus device, and a remote Blind Oracle server that never sees or stores your data. This ensures your Bitcoin remains hyper-secure, even if the device is physically compromised.

Genuine Check : When pairing Jade Plus with Blockstream Green, the system verifies that the Jade was genuinely manufactured by Blockstream to prevent "evil-maid" attacks.

Secure Boot and Anti-Exfil : Secure Boot ensures that only Blockstream-signed software runs on your Jade, keeping your encrypted recovery phrase safe. Anti-Exfil adds another layer of security by forcing the device to include random data in signatures, preventing attackers from slowly guessing your private key.

SD Card Support : The Jade Plus features SD Card support, a new feature not present in the Jade Classic, allowing for fully air-gapped operations such as transaction signing, QR code scanning, and entirely offline firmware updates. This keeps your private keys completely isolated from online threats.

Air-gapped Firmware Updates : Can be performed via JadeLink, an optional accessory.

Battery 🔋

Built-in Battery : The Jade Plus has a larger built-in battery! (280 mAh for Jade Plus compared to 240 mAh for Jade Classic) and comes with a color camera, which further facilitates offline operation.

Versatile Connectivity 🌐

USB and Bluetooth Support

Camera Unlock : Unlock your Jade using SeedQR or QR Pin Unlock.

Connects with Leading Bitcoin Software Wallets such as Blockstream Green, Sparrow, Specter, and Bitcoin Core.

They haven't abandoned their old users! Oops! 🫢
