Resolving Passkey Activation Issues with Unikey on Bitkub Exchange

Last week, Bitkub Exchange launched the Passkey system for cryptocurrency withdrawal confirmations. Many friends asked if Unikey could be used on Bitkub Exchange.

After trying Unikey with Bitkub Exchange, I can confirm that it works.

This article will primarily focus on troubleshooting Unikey usage with Bitkub Exchange, as many of you might encounter similar issues to mine. I want to share how to use Unikey. Currently, security key usage is not supported on mobile applications.

Before we enable Unikey, let's briefly understand what Unikey is and what the Passkey system is.

What is Unikey?

Unikey is used for identity verification. It's well-known that using just a username and password is no longer sufficient to protect against hackers. Unikey Model 3C NFC is designed to protect against account hacking for Binance, Facebook, Gmail, YouTube, Microsoft Account, Dropbox, Twitter, GitHub, and other accounts. It functions similarly to Yubico YubiKey 5C NFC.

If you don't have a Unikey, you can purchase one from Bitcast with after-sales service on their website here. There are two models:

Unikey Model 3C NFC - Security Key This model can be used on computers via USB Type C and with mobile phones via NFC. However, it cannot be used on the Bitkub application yet; it only works on the website. If your computer uses USB Type C, choose this model.

Unikey Model 1A - Security Key This model is only for computers via USB Type A. If your computer uses USB Type A, choose this model.

Remember to buy two for backup in case one gets lost.

What is the Passkey system?

A Passkey is a method of authentication during the login process that does not require a password. Instead, it relies on authentication with the user's device, making Passkeys convenient and, more importantly, offering higher security than password-based authentication and two-factor authentication (2FA). Advantages of the Passkey system

Enhanced Security: The Passkey system reduces the risk of passwords being stolen or misused by unauthorized individuals, as users do not need to remember or enter any passwords, and no passwords are sent to servers where they could be intercepted.

Ease of Use: Users don't need to remember or enter passwords and can use it across various devices like smartphones and computers. It supports authentication via fingerprints, facial recognition, and PINs, allowing users to access services more quickly and easily.

Steps to enable the Passkey system using Unikey on the Bitkub Exchange website

Steps to enable Unikey:

Click on the profile icon and select "Settings".

Select "Security".
Select "Set up Passkey" and click the "Create Passkey" button.

5. Verify your identity with SMS OTP and follow the on-screen instructions.

6. Select USB security key.

Additional note for MacBook users: If you haven't enabled Unikey before, click "Allow".

7. Set the PIN for the security key and click "Next".

8. Wait for a moment for your computer to save the website to the security key.

9. Passkey created successfully.

You can edit and delete the Passkey name.

If you encounter issues using Passkey

You can find solutions to other problems on the Bitkub website. Some of you might experience the same issue as me, which was an "error 500".

Troubleshooting "error 500":

Reset your network or internet connection.
For iOS devices: Enable iCloud Keychain by going to Settings > Passwords > Password Options > Toggle on "AutoFill Passwords and Passkeys" and "iCloud Keychain".

Then, try enabling Unikey on the Bitkub Exchange website again by following the steps. Initially, I tried to fix it using the Bitkub method, but I couldn't create a Passkey. I tried several times without success, so I decided to try again the next day.

The next day, I tried creating a Passkey again and succeeded on the first attempt. If you're facing the same issue as me where you can't create a Passkey, you can try my method first to potentially save troubleshooting time.

Troubleshooting 2FA issues when creating a Passkey on mobile

If you're unable to use 2FA, you'll need to enter a new key. The old key you had might no longer work. The new key is provided during the Passkey setup on mobile, and you'll need to enter it into your authenticator.
