Hardware Wallet Industry News Update - March 2025

Updating firmware and applications is crucial. Severe vulnerabilities could affect our assets, and many of you might not be tracking updates for every hardware wallet brand.

The Bitcast team has been monitoring hardware wallet firmware and application updates to keep you informed about the latest security and new features. This March, several hardware wallet brands released new firmware and app versions, adding features, improving usability, and enhancing security. Let's dive into the details.

Trezor

Firmware Version 2.8.9

Updates for Model T, Safe 3, and Safe 5 this March:

✅ New Features

• Easier Recovery Cancellation
  During wallet recovery, if you change your mind, you can now cancel directly from the screen where you select the number of seed phrase words.
  
  
• Display Ethereum Account Info
  During Ethereum transactions, account information will be displayed on the device screen for your review before confirmation.
  
  
• Screen for Long Messages
  Improved UI to display long messages more clearly when confirming multi-line data.
  
  
• Added Screen for Solana Staking
  When staking on the Solana network, a display screen will appear for review before confirmation.

🔧 Bug Fixes

• If you cancel recovery from Trezor Suite, the system will now also cancel on the device, eliminating the need to restart or reconfigure.

Trezor Suite App Version 25.3.3

The Trezor application also received updates, adding new capabilities and various improvements.

🌟 New Features

• Direct Solana Staking: No need for other apps, you can stake SOL directly via Suite.
• Cancel Bitcoin Transactions: If a transaction is still pending, you can now cancel it.
• OTC Trading System: Added a channel for large volume crypto trading off-exchange, outside of typical markets.

⚙️ Improvements

• Introduced a secure (end-to-end) method for verifying addresses when receiving crypto.
• Redesigned the new welcome screen for a simpler, more user-friendly experience, and allows enabling Discreet mode before entering the Dashboard.
• Redesigned popup (modal) windows for a more aesthetic and user-friendly appearance.
• Added protection against app file modification on Windows.
• Added Blockhash timer display for Solana transactions.
• Supports 1inch Fusion, helping to reduce fees when exchanging tokens via DEX.

Ledger

Firmware Update

• Nano X (v2.4.2): Earlier this month, some users experienced issues with apps disappearing from the screen after updating, but the team has now resolved this.
  
  
• Nano S Plus (v1.3.2), Stax (v1.6.2), Flex (v1.2.2): Latest updates were released on March 5th.

Ledger Live App (v2.104.0)

• Updated on March 19th, with security enhancements, minor UI adjustments, and bug fixes.

⚠️ Caution: There are currently phishing websites imitating Ledger firmware updates. We recommend updating exclusively through the official Ledger Live app for the safety of your assets.

Firmware Classic 1S Version 3.11.0

Released on March 26, 2025, with notable updates:

• Added German language
• Supported new networks such as Benfen, Neo, HSK, and Sonic

🔧 Bug Fixes

• Fixed an issue where withdrawing ADA to certain exchanges failed.

Features & App Updates

• Added support for NFTs on EVM, TON, and Solana
• Improved WalletConnect feature for easier and more secure use
• Transaction history interface is being redesigned for better readability and usability
• Now able to import/export wallets using BIP39 seed phrase (though Tangem still recommends using seed phrases generated by the device itself for maximum security)

Latest Firmware Version: 2.3.4

• This version adds support for the Casa app and fixes minor display bugs.
• Updates can be done via the Envoy app or using an air-gapped microSD card.

 

Envoy App

• Used to manage Passport firmware and settings without connecting to a computer.
• Connects to the Bitcoin network via Tor for privacy.
• Coin control is not yet supported but is planned for future inclusion.
