Storing digital assets with a Hardware Wallet is a fundamental security standard for self-custody. But did you know that you can further enhance security by enabling a Passphrase or a 25th word to create a Hidden Wallet (secret wallet) separate from your main wallet?
In this article, I will guide you through the step-by-step process of setting up a Passphrase on OneKey, both on the device and the application.
🚨Important precautions before setting up
- Passphrase is not a regular password: In the BIP39 system, there is no such thing as an "incorrect Passphrase." If entered incorrectly, even by a single character, case, or space, the system will immediately create a new, empty wallet and will not display the original balance.
- No Reset/Forgot Option: If you forget your Passphrase, you cannot reset it, and assets in the hidden wallet will be lost forever. Data must be backed up separately.
- Always write down your Passphrase and store it in a different location from your main Seed Phrase. Do not keep them in the same place.

How to Set Up Passphrase on OneKey
Enabling Passphrase on OneKey involves two main parts that must be done in conjunction:
Part 1: Set up on the OneKey Hardware Wallet device
- Turn on your OneKey device.
- Press the button on the top right of the device to enter the Main Menu.
- Scroll and select the Security menu.
- Select Passphrase.
- Change the status to Enabled. This completes the feature activation on the device.
Part 2: Set up access via OneKey Application
- Access the wallet page: Open the OneKey application and click on your wallet name in the top-left corner.
- Enter Hidden Wallet settings menu: Click on the "..." icon in the top-right corner.
- Create a secret wallet: Select the "Add Hidden Wallet" menu. (The app will display a warning about Hidden Wallets for you to read and understand. Once you've read it, click "Continue.")
- Connect device: The application will connect to your OneKey device.
- Enter Passphrase: When the screen prompts for the Passphrase.
For maximum security when entering your Passphrase, I recommend clicking "Enter on Device" on the app screen. This option allows you to enter the Passphrase directly on the OneKey device's screen, effectively protecting against viruses, malware, or keylogger programs on your computer and mobile device.
- Hidden wallet ready to use: Once the Passphrase is entered correctly, the system will take you to your Hidden Wallet, ready to securely send and receive assets.
