Why Keystone 3 Pro is worth using BY Admin Tee - Pre-use Review

Currently, there are more and more hardware wallets available from various brands, but the question is...

Which hardware wallet should we choose that is trustworthy and practical?

Today, Admin Tee will take on the role of a small influencer to review and share personal views on why Keystone 3 Pro is an interesting hardware wallet that I personally like. This is a pre-use review to share my perspective on why I decided to use Keystone 3 Pro.

First of all… What is a Hardware Wallet?

Let's first understand what a Hardware Wallet is in simple terms.

  • Hardware = Device
  • Wallet = Wallet

When combined, it means "a device used to store crypto offline," where we fully own 100% of our Private Key.

To illustrate it simply, it's like a "crypto safe" that no one can access.

And when talking about a safe, the question is...

What should we consider before buying a safe for ourselves? If we're going to buy a safe, we want to be able to sleep peacefully without any worries.

So, what's good about Keystone 3 Pro?

1. Security and Reliability

The first thing I prioritize most is "security," because mishandling crypto can definitely change your life.

  • The brand has a clear origin and presence.

Keystone company was founded in 2019, formerly known as Cobo Vault, before rebranding to Keystone.

  • Fully Open-Source

Both the Hardware and Firmware are open for public inspection, increasing transparency and allowing the global community to help verify.

  • Supply Chain Attack Protection

The device has an authenticity verification system via the website authentication.keystone.io to prevent counterfeits or chip tampering during transit.

2. Features that appeal to paranoid individuals (like me, Admin Tee)

Keystone 3 Pro has many interesting functions, especially from the perspective of "someone who demands a high level of confidence" like me.

  •  Air-Gapped QR Code Signing

Keystone does not connect to Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB, or any cables. All transactions are done only by scanning QR codes (similar to how we scan QR codes for payments).

→ Increases security and reduces the chance of external breaches.

  • Fingerprint Scan

Adds convenience for unlocking and signing transactions.

→ No need to constantly remember a PIN, increasing both convenience and security.

  • Self-Destruct Mechanism (I love this!)

If the device is attempted to be disassembled (e.g., screen and circuit board separated), the system will automatically erase all data immediately.

→ Prevents data interception or tampering by malicious actors.

  • Offline Firmware Updates via MicroSD Card

Keystone avoids online updates to reduce the risk of attack.

→ Simply download the Firmware file to an SD Card and update offline instantly.

3. Other distinctive features of Keystone

  • Multi Seed Phrase

Can generate and store up to 3 sets of Seed Phrases on a single device (suitable for people who use multiple wallets but want to carry only one hardware wallet).

  • Multisig Wallet Support

A Multisig Wallet is a digital wallet that requires approval or signatures from two or more people to access the wallet for transactions. It is suitable for those who want a high level of security with multiple signatures and supports use with other wallets like Sparrow, Specter.

  • Shamir Backup

Shamir Backup is a system that divides a Seed Phrase into multiple parts for storage, such as 2 out of 3 or 3 out of 5, to prevent cases where the Seed is stolen or partially lost.

  • Supports over 200 Blockchains

Compatible with various leading software wallets such as MetaMask, Rabby, Keystone App, and others.

  • Has different firmware options to suit usage needs.
    • BTC-only: Ideal for users who want maximum security for Bitcoin and multi-sig use.
    • Cypherpunk: Ideal for users who prioritize privacy and use coins like ZEC, XMR.
    • Multi-currency: Ideal for users who want to hold a variety of coins.

Summary from Admin Tee's perspective

The appealing aspects of Keystone 3 Pro that I like:

  • Reliable security (which addresses my paranoia 😂)

  • Features suitable for those who prefer simplicity + emphasize security.

  • And check what you use and if that particular hardware wallet meets your needs.

If you are a HODLer or a serious crypto investor, Keystone 3 Pro is another option that I recommend everyone consider.
