There are two ways to create a SeedQR, depending on the status of your device.
1. Creation during the initial device setup process
2. Creation after the device has already been set up
1. Creation during the initial device setup process
If this is your first time setting up Blockstream Jade, here's how:
- Go to the Setup Jade menu.
- Select Advanced Setup.
- A warning will appear, advising you to proceed with caution.
- Select Create New wallet.
- In Advanced Mode, you can choose the number of words for your Seed Phrase (12 or 24 words).
- Write down your Seed Phrase and verify its accuracy.
- After you have written it down and verified its accuracy, the system will ask if you also want a SeedQR.
- Answer Yes.
- The system will then ask if you are ready to draw (record) the SeedQR.
- If ready, answer Yes.
- The system will guide you to draw the SeedQR.
- Columns are represented by letters A, B, C, ...
- Rows are represented by numbers 1, 2, 3, ...
- The first square you need to draw is A1, which is the top-left square.
- Follow the steps until finished.
- Once you have drawn (recorded) the SeedQR, the system will prompt you to scan it with your Jade.
- After scanning, you're done. You can then proceed with the normal device setup.

2. Creation after the device has already been set up
If your Jade has already been used or set up, you can still access your SeedQR. Here's how:
- Go to the Options menu.
- Select Temporary Signer.
- Choose to restore your wallet by typing your Seed Phrase.
- Enter your Seed Phrase.
- Once you have entered your Seed Phrase, the system will ask if you want to display the SeedQR.
- Answer Yes.
- The system will then ask if you are ready to draw (record) the SeedQR.
- If ready, answer Yes.
- The system will begin guiding you to draw the SeedQR.
- Once you have drawn (recorded) the SeedQR, the system will prompt you to scan it with your Jade.
- After scanning, you're done.
3. How to Restore Wallet with SeedQR
- Start by setting up your Jade as usual.
- When you reach the "Create New Wallet" and "Restore Wallet" menu, select "Restore Wallet."
- Select Scan QR.
- Have your SeedQR ready and scan it with your Jade.
- After scanning, the system will ask how you want to connect. The subsequent steps will follow the normal device setup process.
4. Precautions
- Absolutely do not take digital photos. Since SeedQR encrypts your Seed Phrase, do not take screenshots, photos with your phone, or upload any digital files of your SeedQR to the cloud or any internet-connected device. You “must” treat it with the same level of importance as your Seed Phrase. If someone gains access to your SeedQR, it is equivalent to them having your Seed Phrase and they can access your funds.
